First of all, let me say that my husband's mother is a wonderful woman and I truly enjoy being her daughter-in-law. She is an intelligient and kind person who we wouldn't want to do without.
Second, my mother-in-law has two sons. And according to my husband, she confuses her memories of the two boys. After she tells a story about one of the boys, my husband frequently says, "I did that, not him!" Or "HE did that, not me!"
One day, after one such occurrence, my husband asked me, "after my Mom passes into Spirit, will she come into a reading still confusing me and my brother?"
This got me thinking about how it would be possible during a reading for a person in Spirit to confuse their memories of people or events they experienced during their lifetime. After all, there have been the rare occasions when a loved one in Spirit has attributed something to my client and the client will say, "that happened to my sister/brother." When that happened I thought it was me confusing the symbols from Spirit, but now thinking back on those situations, I believe that it was case of the above.
