Lessons from a Child: Simple things amuse

A ball of string.  My three-year-old found a ball of string and unrolled it all throughout the downstairs of the house saying he was "making a road."  It's just like the little boy with the dash Trail from the Family Circle comic.  Or a cat... He is so delightfully occupied that I think we can safely return all of his Christmas presents to the store now.  But we should probably keep the cardboard boxes.  *smile*

Lessons from a Child: Floating in leaves

What a magnificent autumn!  This year, many Lily Dale visitors and locals alike have commented on the glorious weather and the spectacular colors of the trees.  Mother Nature has been particularly perfect in her "chemistry experiment" (as I am calling it).  It must have been the Divine Right blend of temperature and plant synergy.

And this formula also means:

autumn leaves = leaf piles are in great supply = FUN!

To their great delight, my children discovered an EXTRA large and EXTRA deep pile of dry leaves to play in.  While the older boy dove into the mound and practically swam in the leafy depths, the younger boy waded in up to the top of his head.  Both were smiling from ear to ear.

And of course, I joined them.  I dropped down into the pile and sprawled like I was lying on a bean bag.  I sank a few inches from the surface so I was mainly hidden from view, but I could still gaze at the sky above.

The leaves were warm and insulating as they buoyantly floated me.  It felt like a "trust float" when someone gently supports your body in the water while you close your eyes and relax all your muscles.  While I "drifted in the Cosmos" of leaf-shaped stars, my children frolicked and their laughter infused the leaves with more Joy.

A lady walked by.  She smiled at the happy faces popping up and out of the huge mountain of leaves.  Nestled sweetly in my leaf burrow, I almost said to her..."Come on in! I highly recommend you try the leaves.  Best float I've had all Fall."  But I was enjoying my quiet comfort too much and didn't want break the spell by speaking.

May you also find and know the blessing of Floating .... trusting quietly the Divine flow in your life and allowing yourself to be buoyed up by the Inspiration of Spirit and comforted by these kinds of sweet Moments.

Living in the Now

The summer Season flew by sooooo fast!   Those ten weeks felt like two!!

My life seems to go by at the speed of light because it is full of family, clients, and various commitments.  And my life is full of many blessings and moments I cherish.

I find myself studying my childrens' hands, faces, voices, and more because they are growing and changing each passing day.  Later on, when they are older, I want to remember the delicious moments of holding them in my arms, helping them with their shoes and homework, laughing at silly things, exploring in the woods, floating in the lake, taking walks and splashing in puddles...

And when I am with clients, time blinks by so fast.  We become so involved in our conversation with their spirit loved ones that we frequently lose track of time.  To me, a half hour feels like five minutes and an hour feels like 15 minutes.

I believe this is because when I am serving as a Medium I am completely in the present moment (in the Now).  We go in deep because I practically immerse myself in what I refer to as the Essence of Spirit.  When I serve as a medium, I feel the immense energy of Spirit channeling through me and the circle of energy grows beyond all comprehension when I know that the person I am reading for feels it too.

Together, we are living in the Now.

Q&A: Tingles during healing

Q:  The last 2 times I have given my Mom Reiki - I have gotten a strange sensation across my face.  It starts on the left side and feels as if someone is near, but then it starts to feel like pin pricks and it travels across the bridge of my nose.  The last time it became kinda uncomfortable.  I haven't been able to figure out if I'm being told to stop- too much energy, or my face is bothering( she has trigeminal neuralgia), or what I need to know.  When I stop giving Reiki, it stops.  Any thoughts?  Many times I have felt someone is touching my face, but the pin pricks is something new.  Thanks, V

A:  During healing, it is very normal for the healer to have enhanced spirit awareness and/or physical sensations (especially touches and tingles).  Most likely you are picking up on something your mother is processing physically (such as the trigeminal neuraligia).  The touches are your spirit healers letting you know they are helping to clear the issue from your mother during your healing session.  However, I suggest that when are in the process of experiencing the pinpricks that you ask your soul what the significance is - you will receive a definitive answer if you do not try to engage your thinking mind.

Peace & Healing,
                           ~Willa

June update

June is the month for 'getting things done'.  As usual, we are Singing the Tune of June.  We are buzzing to get outdoor projects completed before the start of the summer Season here at Lily Dale.  Thought I would give you a quick update...

This is another paint-the-house year for us, so the porch has been cleared temporarily to repaint the porch floor.  I have to keep reminding my 3 year old not to walk on the porch!  And very soon, we will be done scraping the exterior walls so they can get a refresh as well.

Along with house work, our family is tending our vegetable garden plot.  The snap peas are growing nicely and the most of the other plant seeds are in the soil.  This weekend, we were blessed with a mound of seaweed from Cassadaga Lake, so we spread it as mulch between the rows to put more nutrient-rich goodness into the soil.  We are looking forward eating the healthy results!  People talk about canning their extra veggies, but our family always eats everything.

And when we aren't working, we are walking and biking to enjoy the beautiful sunshine.  My 7 year old son zips along on his bike with ease and grace.  My 3 year old has just transitioned in the last month from his little red tricycle to a two-wheel bicycle with training wheels.  He is a student driver so watch your toes!

Other exciting news:  A new coffee-shop Lucy's has opened up where the Cup O Joe coffee-shop used to be (on the corner of Cleveland Ave & First Street).

Renovations:  The Auditorium has new cement steps and bleacher seating.  Also, the Inspiration Stump no longer has the fencing around it because the stump has been re-cemented and many of the benches have been remounted in the ground with new gravel.  These two very important historic areas will be able to more comfortably accommodate Lily Dale's thousands of Summer Season visitors.

It will be another exciting Season!  Hurry scurry, get things done.

Relax and explore your inner world

Last night's class Magical Journey Inward was such a fun class to teach!

Through a series of relaxing, meditative exercises, my students had the opportunity to voyage inside their own bodies and glean information about the innerworkings and concentrate healing thought and intention to various concerns.

With each successive exercise, I noticed the students entered more and more easily into a state of Relaxation.  They were calm and the stress of the day dropped away.  We kept going deeper and deeper.

They reported having greater understanding of their bodies and energy patterns.  Certain spaces inside of them were no longer mysteries.

Exploring your inner world is wonderful way to gain a greater understanding of your Self!

Launching intuition is so much fun!

What a great class!

In the last two weeks, my students in my Launching Your Intuition class have had the opportunity to learn where they see, hear, and feel extrasensory information.  Having awareness of their intuitive receptive sites is key to awakening and launching their intuition.

We had lots of hand-on exercises and the students paired up with someone they didn't know to practice sensing.  With many students, I encouraged them strongly to not think [and overanalyze] and just give out any impressions they were receiving.  It is very validating to have a complete stranger confirm the information you are receiving intuitively. And it is always a delight to watch my students accomplish something they didn't think they could do.

I really appreciate the wonderful feedback from my students and the unexpected applause they gave me in gratitude for their experiences in class.

Keep growing your understanding!  There is always something more to learn and grow and be!!

Spring is here!

Spring has arrived early in Lily Dale!

The crocuses and snowdrops are in full bloom.  Last week, we had three days of temperatures in the 60s and 70s.  The sunshine has been beautiful and the spring showers have been a welcome change from snowflakes.

This winter has been a cakewalk compared to the prior years.  Not to sound dramatic, but Winter in Lily Dale is usually pretty brutal with DEEP snows, frigid temperatures, and almost unrelenting shoveling.  (It is not officially the Artic circle, but many days during the last two winters felt like it! *smile*)

It feels glorious to be outside walking the streets of Lily Dale, taking my children to the playground, and seeing geese and swans swimming on Cassadaga Lake again.

Today, after raking our yard, my sons wanted to take a walk down to the lake to wade in the water and pick up litter (one of our 'good deeds' for the day).  Equipped with rainboots, long sticks, and a few small trash bags, we ventured down to the lake.

We had fun fishing out an assortment of items: a baseball-style hat made for an outdoorman, a foot long orange plastic toy boat, a faded Frisbee, an empty plastic bag for grass seed, some very nice sports bottles, soda cans, and an assortment of plastic bags for food.  These are things that have washed ashore during storms and been forgotten by someone.

All of these items have stories.  My mind tends to have fun writing snippets of small stories, so with each new item I imagine....
  • a fisherman losing his hat to the lake while hauling in a huge walleye
  • a kayaker taking a swig of cool water on a hot summer paddle and losing the fancy water bottle to the 'drink' (pun intended)
  • a Frisbee player jumping to catch the flying saucer and missing as the Frisbee skipped like a stone across the surface of the water before sinking several feet from shore
  • a little boy playing with the the plastic toy boat until it catches a wave out of his reach and boldly steers its' small self out to the open water with the confidence of an ocean liner
  • a homeowner seeding a section of his lawn and the plastic bag flies away with a sneaky gust of wind
  • some boaters out for a pleasure cruise with soda and various snack foods, enjoying the sun, water, and laughter
Life is full of debris and full of stories.  Have you found any stories in other peoples' debris?

Lessons from a Child: my Superhero Son

I am chuckling because I just got done untying a knot in a blanket.  While tidying up the living room, I discovered a tangled mess that is supposed to be a large rectangle suitable for covering the top of a bed.

My older son enjoys making his blanket into a superhero cape.  He ties a good knot, so even with the thickness of the blanket material I have trouble tugging the ends apart.

As I pull and wheedle the blanket free, I envision my wonderful boy dressed for the part: my Superhero Son.  He jumps from his bed with purpose.  He enters the room with confidence.  He delights in his role.

Sometimes he uses a camouflage blanket for added stealth.  He cloaks himself for full body invisibility by tucking the 'cape' and becoming a lump on the floor or couch.

Other times, he goes about his normal business of playing and he is his normal Clark Kent-self.

And as I manage to return the blanket to the bed in its' normal flattened shape, I recognize something in myself.  And I wonder in my journey as a Mother and a Medium, which one is my Superhero role and which one is my Clark Kent role?

Lessons from a Child: Talking about Life and the Soul

Last summer, I served on the Lily Dale summer Season platform with my father William White at the Afternoon Auditorium Service.

We are often paired together and we both enjoy this.  He was the Featured Speaker and I was the Featured Medium.

My father spoke about the importance of the development of the Soul.  Those who only view life from the Five Senses are missing important experiences and understandings.  Materialists live from this standpoint and ignore the Web of Existence.  Living from the standpoint of the Soul helps us to exhibit altruism, to experience the beauty of the 'unseen', and to be open to Infinite Intelligence and more.

Dad also mentioned something about me.  *smile*  When I was five years old, as he was tucking me in bed for night, I asked "can we talk about life, Daddy?"  From a young age, I was interested in understanding my Soul and Life.

I find this to be true of my older son. In fact, he asks spiritual questions and participates in meditations with me.  He enjoys exploring various spiritual aspects

This summer, he overheard my mother and I discussing the Thought Exchange.  She was preparing to be the chairperson of the event.  He asked what a Thought Exchange was and I explained it is a meeting where people discuss spiritual Truths, subjects, and concepts by submitting questions and then people from the group that night volunteer their thoughts to answer the questions.  I gave him examples of possible questions:
  • Does the Soul exist?
  • How can we speak to those who have passed/died?
  • Do animals have Souls?
  • How many days did it take God to create the World?  And is Time (such as a day) the same for us as it is for God?
Once he realized he knew the answers to those questions, he decided that he would like to attend the Thought Exchange and help others to know the answers to these questions.

Never one to get in the way of my child's spiritual education, I hesitated only a moment [mainly because he tends to be shy around strangers and I also thought he might get bored], and then I said, "you will have to ask Grandma if you can attend with her."  And he did!  He called her up and made his request.

My mother explained to him that he would have to sit still and not fidget.  Also, if he decided that he wanted to leave the event, he would need to tell her and then he could head home.

According to my mother and a friend who attended the event, my son sat calmly, submitted his question (which he also answered), answered other questions intelligently, and at one point in answer to one question, he spoke about a lake in South America the size of the country Luxembourg with over 200 species of animals.  A few minutes before the event ended, he decided he was done and he told my mother he was heading home.  By then, he was bored.

I am surprised and proud of my son.  At the ripe old age of six (almost 7), he has attended his first Thought Exchange and knows his Soul.  He can speak with confidence on spiritual subjects and apply spiritual truths to his Life Journey.  He is open to learning and discussion about the Soul.  Yay!

Lessions from a Child: Precious sleeping baby

I am fortunate enough to be a Mother.  Every day, many times a day I am reminded of this blessed fact.  And in this rare moment when I can write a blogpost (currently during a naptime), I find myself thinking about my children.

For you see, silence takes on a whole new dynamic when you have children.  Quiet moments are marked by naps, bedtimes, and times they are out of the house under the care of someone else.

When my children were babies, I would enjoy (for many reasons) the time when they would fall asleep.

Usually, they were in my arms and they would drift off after nursing with blissful smiles on their faces.  Nestled in my arms, their eyelids would flutter closed, breathing slowed, and time stood still as I watched all their muscles relax into trustful slumber.

On days when I had pressing obligations and responsibilities to attend to during their sleeptime, I felt this tug to stay in this precious moment with my sleeping baby, wrapped up in love.  Often with some measure of regret, I would lay them down in their bed and tiptoe away.
The peace felt like no other kind of peace.  Love and contentment washed over me.  My soul blended with my baby's energy much the same way it blended during gestation.  This little piece of joy was mine to hold onto.
