Blogging pause

As some of you may have noticed, I am not blogging much lately.

I have plenty of spiritual thoughts and experiences to share it's just that every time I think about blogging, life picks up the pace.

I will literally sit down at the computer to type out a Blogpost and without fail one (or both) of my sons captures my attention OR my husband needs me OR a client calls, and the blogging thought disappears with a *poof*.

Living is a full-time job, after all.

I am human and I still have to deal with mundane life stuff, such as ...
  • cooking meals, washing laundry, sweeping and mopping floors, and other housekeeping
  • getting my children to and from school and extracurricular activites
  • supporting my husband in his interests
  • connecting with and helping my close friends/family through their life events
  • planting, weeding, and maintaining a vegetable garden
  • improving

Also, I'm sure those of you who are familiar with snow know that in Winter actions seem to take longer, such as walking, driving, and moving from one place to another.

In fact, leaving the house (and returning) is a task in itself for two reasons.  Putting on the many layers of extra clothing, mittens, coats, and boots for myself and two children, and then reversing the process to remove this winter apparel take up a good chunk of time. Shoveling the porch, sidewalk, and driveway are next on the list of time devouring vacuums, along with scraping the snow and ice off of the car.  And once we in the vehicle, snowy streets and icy roads discourage traveling fast.

So I am choosing to live my life rather than recording it (for now).  This phase of life is so precious and I don't want to miss these moments with my family.

Recognizing Spirit class

Thank you to all the wonderful people who attended my 'Recognizing Spirit Contact' class.

I was happy to introduce you to many techniques for fostering Spirit contact.  In addition to the standard ways of seeing, hearing, and feeling, Spirit uses symbols, messages, and dreams to convey impressions.

We had a fabulous discussion about several ways loved ones in Spirit communicate and the various signs they offer.  I really appreciated the many personal stories those from the group shared.

The vast majority of you have sensed Spirit at some point in your life.  Parents, grandparents, siblings, children, friends, and pets have presented themselves in one way or another to you.

Keep up the good work!  And remember that you are your own best Mediums!

Experiencing Lily Dale class

Thank you to all those who attended my "Lily Dale Experience" class last night.  Many of you have been students in my classes before.  Some of you met me for the first time.

Last night, I was your "tour guide".  You each had the opportunity to participate in a healing and spirit message service in Lily Dale and get your questions about Spiritualism, Lily Dale, mediumship, and spiritual healing answered.

Comments from the evening:
"What a wonderful class!"
"The spirit message I received was very correct."
"I was glad to hear from my dad [in Spirit] tonight."
"Thank you, we had an amazing time!"

I am so happy I could help you to better understand Lily Dale and the development of your own spiritual gifts more.  I know you will all return to Lily Dale again for classes, church services, and especially to feel the peace of Lily Dale.

See you next week at my "Recognizing Spirit Contact" class!

Direct vs Indirect public mediumship

For the past few days, I have been giving lots of spirit messages during the 5:30 p.m. Message Service at the Inspiration Stump.  This is due to the fact that this particular week, my mother Bonnie White is the chairperson for this service so I am helping her out.  (It's good to support family!)

Before today's message service, another medium and I were discussing the different styles of public mediumship (aka standup messagework).  The two main methods are direct and indirect.

Let's start with Indirect:   With the indirect method, the medium gives out a few pieces of information and then sees who can take the message.  Many people refer to this as British-style mediumship.  Typically, it takes a bit more time to give the message because of working to identify the recipient.  Often, more than one person can accept the message and there can be a bit of back and forth to establish what pieces of information the various audience members can accept.

Direct:  As the name implies, the medium goes directly to the person and gives them the message.  This is the technique I use.

I allow Spirit to direct me to the person I am to give a message to.  Sometimes there is a light around the person.  Or a light that I follow to the person.  Other times, I feel magnetically drawn to the person and the rest of the audience fades.  I get tunnel vision, so I tend not to see the others.  I am completely focused on my connection with their loved one in Spirit and what the message is.

Most mediums at Lily Dale tend to use the direct method, although some mediums who have been training with British mediumship teachers use the indirect method at times.

Featured Medium 8-26-2015 at Auditorium service

On Wednesday August 26th, I will be the Featured Medium at the afternoon church service in Lily Dale.

During the summer season, the afternoon services are held in Lily Dale's historic Auditorium starting at 2:30 p.m. The Auditorium platform has been a place for speakers of spiritual philosophy, social causes, and Spiritualism. Several big names have spoken there - Susan B. Anthony, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, and more! I have had the honor of speaking on the summer platform for over a decade.

For those of you who are not familiar with this service, here is a basic outline for this one hour event:

  • Lecture from the featured speaker - on this particular date, my father William White will present a lecture on a spiritual subject.
  • Messages from Spirit - demonstrations of mediumship are presented by the medium (me, this Sunday).
  • Music - songs with live music accompaniment (hopefully from our very historic and beautiful pipe organ)

So there you go - if you are coming to the service, you will share sacred time with me!

We are under Grace

Thank you to everyone who came to hear my lecture and messages at the Sunday church service at the Church of the Living Spirit on April 12th!!!  That day, the church was packed.  When we ran out of chairs, more had to be added.  And when we ran out of hymnals, folks shared.

Then, at the luncheon, they ran out of food.  Thankfully, my family and I were the last few people in line, so we were able to just go home for our mid-day meal.  I was glad it didn't happen to someone who was visiting Lily Dale for the day as they would have had to go off-grounds for lunch.  I expected at least a little grumbling from my boys, but they all took it graciously in stride.  I whipped up food in short order, and our family bowed our heads and blessed our time and meal together.

In the days following the church service, many of you have approached me to let me know how much you appreciated my lecture and messages from Spirit.  Some folks told me they were able to put aside their sorrows and burdens during that sweet hour of prayer and to their great amazement they allowed themselves to enjoy the whole rest of the day.  Others said they enjoyed the references to George Mueller and other examples.

I truly enjoyed sharing my thoughts and inspirations, especially about how God is our Supply and how WE ARE UNDER GRACE at all times.  As we focus on applying the Law of Nonresistance in our lives, obstructions and delays take on new meaning as we accept these events as blessings.

As a recent example of carrying on despite perceived obstacles, I just took a break from writing this blogpost to go on a brief family walk.  It was raining and we almost decided to stay inside.  We determined that we would venture out anyway because we wanted to enjoy some fresh air.  We are glad we did, for amid the sprinkles and downpours, rays of sunshine were peaking thru from time to time.  Immediately up the street from our house, we saw a beautiful rainbow.  What a colorful gift of Joy!

Just as the song "Higher Ground" says, God lifts us up and plants our feet on Higher Ground.  Let us dwell ON the Good and IN the Good, giving God our undivided attention.

The robins are singing!

It has been a long, brutal winter.

Lily Dale usually gets more than its' fair share of snow, but this year takes the cake.  This winter has been especially fierce.

The snow is higher than average and the temperature colder.  On the nicer days, my older son enjoys climbing the highest snow banks created by the snowplows --- some over 10 feet tall.  Bitterly cold temperatures have frozen water & heat pipes, along with noses and toes.

Thus far, our lowest temperature during the day has been -24 degrees F and windchill has made it -40.  Ice and snow damage have effected many in Lily Dale.  Large pieces of ice have fallen on roofs, vehicles, windows, and more.  Ice damming has produced leaks and discussions of where to put the bowls and buckets to capture drips.

But today, after this avalanche of snow and ice, we have sunshine, blue skies, and sightings of red-breasted robins (the generally accepted harbingers of Spring).  It may be only 22 degrees F, but I am filled with gratitude and hope.  These are the moments I told myself would come again.

Folks are just as eager for the sunshine and lush greenness of Lily Dale as I am.  As each day progresses, more and more clients are calling to schedule their readings for the summer Season.

Soon we will be repairing our houses, washing the final coat of road salt off our vehicles, and taking bicycle rides.  We will see the swans gliding on the lake again with their newest batch of babies.  And we will dig in the gardens, planting our flowers and vegetables.

There is a promise in the air.  And her name is Spring!

Cultivating the spiritual path

Our lives are so busy in modern society.  Our appointment books are completely full and we're always running here and there.

We often complain there isn't enough time for cultivating the Spiritual Path.  However, whenever we have a spare moment, we work more or fill in the gap with other activities.

We have time for many other things, but we hardly ever have time to nourish ourselves spiritually by attending spiritual development classes and meditating.  This is a common refrain from my students, clients, and peers.

As a wife and mother with a young family, I understand this.  Right now, I am in the child-rearing phase of life.  And my time is largely taken up with mundane living.  I must "chop wood and carry water."

Occasionally, in the midst of a task of drudgery, I sigh and look longingly at my book waiting for me on the table.  Or I will think about the church service or spiritual class I would like to attend but can't because my family needs me.  Or I will dream about the world traveling I would like to do and the spiritual cultures I would like to see first hand.

And then, in the next moment, my husband or one of my sons reminds me with a smile, word, or action how special and sacred this "mundane" experience is.  What a wonderful feeling it is when I remember to glory in my experiences with family life and when I remember they are part of cultivating my Spiritual Path!

It also helps that in the few spare moments I have when I am not working or tending to my family, I am conscious of nourishing myself with Spiritual Food.  Frequently, I feel hungry and thirsty for spiritual words and experiences.  I will snatch a few minutes to meditate, check in with the Divine, read a spiritual book, or do yoga.

I know that even with all I "must" do to facilitate my young family's growth, I am also working diligently to know my own Soul more, feel connected with the Universe more, and feel the Love of the Divine in my Life.  And I am teaching them how to do the same, just as they are teaching me.  This phase of life is so precious and I don't want to miss these moments with my family.

My human frustrations are temporary, my Soul is forever.  My life is an embodiment of Prayer.  So I will continue to Cultivate my Spiritual Path as I can and where I can and as directed by the Divine.

Private words for your ears only

Often, I will say to a client: "These are your spirit loved ones private words for you.  You may not wish to share them with anyone else."

After her reading today, one of my clients told me that she had a reading with me six years ago and she enjoyed it very much.  She went on to share with me a surprising feature of her recording from that reading.

Back then, I was still using audio cassette tapes.  She says when I began the reading I tested the cassette tape in front of her, then rewound the tape back to the beginning, and recorded the session.

After the reading, the person she had traveled to Lily Dale with wanted to listen to her reading.  She didn't feel comfortable but she let them pop the tape into the car's cassette player.  The tape didn't work.  It was blank!  She felt enormously relieved.

She knew that tape functioned because I had tested it in front of her.  So later on at home when she was by herself, she tried the tape again alone and it played beautifully!!!  My client is delighted that when she listens to it alone she can hear it, but anytime she tries to play the tape for someone else it is blank.

I guess her spirit loved ones really want their words to be private (and she does as well).  After all, the way spirit speaks with one person is not necessarily the way they speak with another member of the same family or group.

Bottom line:  A mediumship reading is a private session for a client to have a special time of connection and possibly a very personal conversation with their loved one(s) in Spirit.  Honoring the private nature of the conversation is important for the client, the medium, and the loved ones in Spirit.  Please keep this in mind if/when you consider allowing another person to listen to your recording.  Some things are for your ears only.
