What a difference from Opening Day of the season and the past two months! By now, the majority of the summer visitors have departed and the public buildings are closed. The off-season begins.
I feel a sense of waiting for the next moment, that space between before and after. This is probably the way a teacher feels when her students leave a classroom on the last day of school - desks are empty, the hallways are clear, and the chalk dust has settled. Or the feeling after a dinner party - as you clear the table and reminisce about the evening's conversation.
It is the breath a singer takes between notes. It is moment after the sun has set and before night begins. This is a relaxing moment that is bittersweet because something incredible is ending and because it is a much-needed pause before something glorious begins.
This pause in time can blink by as quick as a milli-second or can span an eternity. It is my decision how I choose perceive this moment.
I embrace this moment of hush. I embrace now.
